HUNTING THE ALASKA PENINSULA

Airline reservations to King Salmon can be made by contacting the following airlines:

Peninsula Airways: (800) 448-4226 (Alaska Airlines Commuter) www.penair.com

Alaska Airlines: (800) 426-0333 www.alaskaairlines.com

Due to the remoteness of the Alaska Peninsula and our dedication to wilderness hunts, it will normally take one full day (from the time you arrive in King Salmon to the time you arrive at a base camp or spike camp), to obtain license and tags, change into field clothes, repack your gear, complete contracts, and fly you to a good hunting location.  You will usually fly to a camp in the afternoon or evening.  This day is a necessary part of your hunt and is required by Alaska State Law which prohibits hunting the same day you are flown out.  This day also gives you the opportunity to obtain any last minute items you require.  This day counts as a day of your total trip time.

*Please understand that this day and your departure day are very often the most difficult workdays for my staff and me.  Patience and a relaxed attitude always make for a better hunt.

Airline flights from Anchorage to King Salmon should be scheduled at least three hours after you arrive in Anchorage from the lower 48 states.  All too often, flights from the lower 48 are delayed and close connecting flights to western Alaska are missed or baggage will not be transferred in time.  We recommend you allow time for an overnight in Anchorage and flying on to King Salmon the following morning.  This will, in most cases, allow us time to complete the above-mentioned activities and relocate you to a camp.

Hunters arriving before the scheduled date or who are delayed due to bad weather will be responsible for all extra costs incurred, including hotel rooms, meals and any activities undertaken (i.e. fishing, bird hunting, flight seeing, etc.).  Hunters departing after the scheduled date will be responsible for the same.  Guided fishing and bird hunting are usually available at a rate of $150 to $200 per person with food and lodging being the hunter’s responsibility.

On the Alaska Peninsula, the nature of weather patterns is prone to sudden change.  These conditions can sometimes prevent flying to and from camps.  Although we strive to meet all your needs while you are a guest, circumstances beyond our control, which require judgment calls by experienced personnel, may cause you some inconvenience.  Please be patient and recognize that these decisions are in the interest of your safety and comfort.

HUNTING KODIAK

Airline reservations to Kodiak can be made by contacting the following airlines:

Alaska Airlines (800) 426-4226  www.alaskaairlines.com

ERA Airlines (800) 866-8394  www.flyera.com

Traveling to Kodiak from the lower 48 can generally be done in one day- arriving into Kodiak afternoon or evening of that travel day.  There are a number of good hotels in Kodiak proper where you can spend the night.  This offers the opportunity to see the harbor and the fishing fleet as well as the town.  The following morning you will need to go to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game offices and pick up your Brown Bear or Goat permit.  It also offers an opportunity to pick up any last minute items in town.

Either I or a representative will meet you and help you through this process.

Following this, you will be taken to the air charter company that will fly you to the hunting area.  We will have the reservations made in advance.  You may pay for the flight at this time by credit card or cash.  Like the Alaska Peninsula, weather conditions on Kodiak are dynamic and variable which requires you to be prepared for flight delays.  These potential delays are often due to logistical considerations and most importantly, Your Safety.  Be patient and flexible and we will get the job done!

TRAVELING WHILE IN ALASKA

Most flights from the “lower 48” will require one day travel time to get to Anchorage.  Here, you should plan on spending the night and traveling to the Alaska Peninsula on a flight the following day.  Your return trip may require a stay in either King Salmon or Anchorage.
